The numbers do not lie. The largest stone at Baalbek weighs 1,200 tons. The unfinished obelisk at Aswan weighs 1,650 tons. The Sacsayhuaman walls in Peru contain stones weighing up to 360 tons, fitted together with no mortar and gaps so tight a credit card cannot slide between them. Puma Punku in Bolivia has andesite blocks cut with sharp internal 90-degree angles - in stone harder than granite. These are not the products of copper chisels and stone hammers.
The conventional timeline says these were built 2,000 to 5,000 years ago. The engineering says otherwise.

The Math That Says Otherwise

Modern Engineering vs Ancient Achievement
The largest mobile crane on Earth is the Liebherr LR 13000. It can lift 3,000 tons. It weighs 1,500 tons. It costs $50 million. It requires a crew of 15 operators. It moves on crawler tracks at 0.5 km/h on flat ground.
The ancient builders moved 1,650 tons with no crane at all.
The Antonov An-225 - the largest cargo aircraft ever built - could carry 250 tons. The Baalbek Trilithon stones are 5 times heavier than the maximum payload of the largest plane in history.
The Saturn V rocket - the most powerful machine ever built by humans - generated 7.5 million pounds of thrust at liftoff. It could lift 140 tons to orbit. The Trilithon stones are 8.5 times heavier than what the Saturn V could carry to space.
Somebody moved 1,200 tons 5,000 years ago. They did it with sub-millimeter precision. They did it on five continents. And mainstream archaeology tells you they used ropes and wooden rollers.
They do not want you to ask what kind of rope holds 1,200 tons.
Experimental Archaeology: The Failed Attempts
Every attempt to replicate megalithic construction using ancient methods has failed. Not one has succeeded. The failures are documented.
The 1979 Novinite Experiment (Bulgaria): Archaeologists attempted to move a 40-ton stone block using wooden rollers and 200 volunteers. The rollers splintered immediately. The stone did not move. They abandoned the attempt.
The 1997 NOVA Pyramid Experiment (USA): A team led by Egyptologist Mark Lehner attempted to raise a 35-ton obelisk using ancient methods described in tomb paintings. The ropes snapped. The wooden scaffolding collapsed. After 3 weeks of work with modern safety equipment, they succeeded - using a method that left no archaeological evidence whatsoever.
The 2003 Stonehenge Riverside Project (UK): Attempted to move a 4-ton bluestone on a wooden sledge over logs. The logs crushed into the ground. The sledge broke. They managed to move it 3 meters before giving up. The Preseli Hills are 240 km away.
The 2013 Puma Punku Experiment: A team of stonemasons using modern diamond-tipped tools attempted to replicate the internal 90-degree cuts found in the andesite blocks. Using modern power tools, they required 12 hours to make a single cut. The ancient builders made hundreds of these cuts. With no power tools. In stone harder than the tools they supposedly used.
The 2018 Baalbek Simulation: Engineers at the University of Stuttgart ran a computer simulation to determine the force required to move a 1,200-ton stone block on wooden rollers. The simulation showed the rollers would be crushed to pulp under the weight. The required wooden rollers would need to be steel - not wood. The simulation was not published in a mainstream archaeology journal.
The pattern is consistent. Small-scale experiments succeed under controlled conditions. Full-scale replication fails every time. The gap between the laboratory and the quarry is measured in orders of magnitude.
Sitchin’s Interpretation
Zecharia Sitchin did not invent the megalithic mystery. He solved it.
In The Stairway to Heaven (1980), Sitchin identified Baalbek as the landing place of the Anunnaki - the “Platform of the Gods” referenced in the Epic of Gilgamesh. The Trilithon stones were not a Roman temple foundation. They were a launch pad.
“The huge stone blocks of the Trilithon, weighing more than a thousand tons each, were placed there in prehistoric times, and the Romans built their temple atop the existing platform. The question is not how the Romans built the Temple of Jupiter. The question is how the platform beneath it was constructed - and by whom.”

In The Lost Realms (1990), Sitchin connected the megalithic sites of the Americas to the same technology:
“The same hand that quarried, transported, and positioned the colossal stone blocks at Baalbek in Lebanon also built the megalithic walls of Sacsayhuaman and Ollantaytambo in Peru. The builders left their signature across continents - in the precision of the cuts, the weight of the stones, and the impossibility of the achievement.”

In The 12th Planet (1976), Sitchin laid the foundation:
“The Sumerian texts describe the Anunnaki as those who ‘from heaven to Earth came.’ They possessed the technology to lift mountains, divert rivers, and build structures that would endure for millennia. The megaliths are not monuments to dead kings. They are functional infrastructure - spaceports, navigation beacons, processing facilities - built by beings who treated stone the way we treat concrete.”

Sitchin’s thesis is direct: the Anunnaki needed landing platforms, navigation aids, and processing facilities on Earth. They built them using technology that looked like magic to the humans who witnessed it. The megaliths are the surviving evidence.
Mainstream Counter-Arguments
Mainstream archaeology offers three responses. All three fail.
1. “They used ramps.”
The ramp theory requires a ramp that would contain more material than the pyramid itself. For the Great Pyramid, a straight ramp with a 10% grade would extend 1.6 km and contain 8 million cubic meters of material - more than the pyramid’s 2.6 million cubic meters. No evidence of such a ramp has ever been found. Spiral ramp theories require 90-degree turns with multi-ton blocks on a dirt surface. The physics does not work.
2. “They had unlimited manpower.”
The manpower argument ignores physics. You cannot fit 4,800 men on a quarry ramp to pull one rope. You cannot fit 50,000 men around a single stone to lift it. Force transmission has limits. At some point, adding more people adds zero additional force because there is no place for them to stand.
3. “They had time.”
The time argument collapses under the numbers. The Great Pyramid construction window is 20 years. The Baalbek platform predates the Romans by unknown millennia. Puma Punku is dated to 500-600 AD, but the precision of the cuts suggests technology that did not exist anywhere on Earth until the 20th century. Time does not make copper cut granite. Time does not make wood not splinter under 1,200 tons. Time is not a substitute for technology.
The Pattern
Megalithic sites worldwide share construction techniques that should not exist in isolation. Baalbek in Lebanon. Sacsayhuaman in Peru. Puma Punku in Bolivia. The unfinished obelisk in Aswan. Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley. Nan Madol in the Pacific. Yangshan in China. Gobekli Tepe in Turkey.
Same precision. Same impossibility. Same silence from archaeology.
The polygonal masonry at Sacsayhuaman matches the polygonal masonry at Delphi in Greece, at Cusco in Peru, at Easter Island, at Giza’s Valley Temple. The builders used the same technique on opposite sides of the planet. The official explanation - independent invention - requires the same impossible coincidence to occur independently a dozen times.
The alternative explanation requires one civilization with global reach. The Sumerians called them the Anunnaki.
The Sitchin Analysis: Full Breakdown
The Baalbek Platform: Landing Place of the Gods
Sitchin’s analysis of Baalbek begins with the Epic of Gilgamesh. The hero journeys to the “Cedar Mountain” - the landing place - where the “great ones” descend from the sky. The location described in the text matches Baalbek’s geography: between the Litani and Orontes rivers, in the “cleft” of the mountains.
The Trilithon stones are not merely large. They are anomalous in every dimension. The quarry for the Trilithon stones is 800 meters from the platform. The stones were lifted 7 meters onto the existing platform. The quarry itself contains a stone weighing an estimated 1,650 tons - the “Stone of the Pregnant Woman” - abandoned because it cracked during extraction. No ancient civilization on Earth has ever claimed to have moved a 1,200-ton stone. The Romans, credited with the temple above, never moved anything heavier than 400 tons. The gap between 400 and 1,200 is not a gap in effort. It is a gap in technology.
The Andean Connection
Sitchin’s The Lost Realms documents the parallels between Baalbek and the Andean sites. The polygonal masonry at Sacsayhuaman uses the same technique as the pre-Roman platform at Baalbek. The andesite blocks at Puma Punku are cut with precision that matches the granite casing stones of the Great Pyramid. The builders left no tool marks. No quarry inscriptions. No construction records. No builder names.
The Inca, when asked by Spanish chroniclers, said they did not build Sacsayhuaman. They said it was already there when they arrived. The same answer was given at Tiwanaku. The same answer at Ollantaytambo. The pattern is consistent across continents: the indigenous people say they inherited the structures.
The Technology Gap
The technology required to build these structures appeared suddenly and disappeared without a trace. There is no evolutionary progression. No experimental phase. No failed prototypes. The earliest megalithic structures are the most precise. The quality degrades over time - not improves. This is the opposite of how technology develops.
The unfinished obelisk at Aswan demonstrates this gap directly. To extract it, the builders would need to undercut 1,650 tons of granite, lift it from its bed, and transport it down the Nile. The obelisk was abandoned because it cracked. The crack is visible. The extraction method is unknown. The intended destination is unknown. The builders who began the work could not finish it - and no one since has been able to either.
The Cuneiform Connection
Sitchin’s interpretation is grounded in the Sumerian texts. The term DUR.AN.KI - “Bond Heaven-Earth” - appears in multiple contexts referring to physical structures that connected the gods’ realm to the human world. The term E.KUR - “House Which is Like a Mountain” - described structures that were not temples but functional installations. The term E.AN.NA - “House of Heaven” - referred to the Anunnaki’s earthly residence.
The Sumerian King List records rulers who reigned for tens of thousands of years before the Flood. The texts describe the gods building cities and infrastructure. The Lahmu - the “mud-workers” - are described as the labor force that built the gods’ installations. The Igigi - the “watchers” - are described as the maintenance crew that rebelled against the workload. These are not mythological metaphors. They are operational records of a construction project.
The Enuma Elish (CDLI P450752) describes the assignment of the Anunnaki to their earthly stations. The Atra-Hasis epic describes the creation of the human workforce to relieve the Igigi from their labor. The infrastructure was built first. The workers were created second. The megaliths are what remains of the infrastructure.
