Baalbek

Baalbek (ancient Heliopolis) is an archaeological site in eastern Lebanon, best known for its monumental Roman temple complex. Beneath these Roman structures lies one of the greatest mysteries of ancient engineering: the Baalbek megalithic platform, also known as the Great Terrace or Temple of Jupiter foundation.

The Megalithic Stones

The platform at Baalbek contains some of the largest cut stones ever used in construction:

Stone Weight Dimensions
The Stone of the Pregnant Woman ~1,000 tons 21.5 Γ— 4.8 Γ— 4.2 m
The Stone of the South ~1,242 tons 21.5 Γ— 5.0 Γ— 4.3 m
The Forgotten Stone ~1,650 tons 23.5 Γ— 6.0 Γ— 5.0 m
Trilithon blocks (3 Γ— 800 tons) ~800 tons each 19.6 Γ— 4.6 Γ— 3.6 m

Sitchin's Interpretation

To Zecharia Sitchin, Baalbek was the most important physical evidence of the Anunnaki presence on Earth. He identified it as the primary launch pad for Anunnaki rocketships (SHEM):

"Baalbek was not built by the Romans, nor by the Phoenicians. Its megalithic platform is the remnant of an Anunnaki spaceport facility β€” the 'landing place' from which the rockets of the gods ascended to heaven."

Sitchin noted several key points:

  1. Unmatched scale β€” No ancient or modern technology known to conventional history could have quarried, transported, and lifted stones of this weight
  2. Precision fit β€” The trilithon stones fit together with tolerances of fractions of a millimeter
  3. Original purpose β€” The platform predates all known civilizations, with occupation layers going back to the 7th millennium BCE
  4. Strategic location β€” Baalbek sits at a key geographical point in what Sitchin called the "landing corridor"

The Landing Corridor

Baalbek was part of a network of Anunnaki facilities:

Site Function
Baalbek Launch pad / take-off platform
Giza Navigation beacon (Great Pyramid)
Sinai Main spaceport
Jerusalem "Mount of the Crossing" β€” guidance
Ararat Northern approach landmark

The Name Baalbek

Sitchin notes that the name "Baalbek" derives from "Ba'al" (Lord) + "Bek" (Beka'a valley). Ba'al was another name for the god Marduk/Hadad, the storm god. However, the site's original Sumerian name may have been connected to Enlil, the commander of the spaceport.
