Creation of the Universe¶
Selected quotations from the Enuma Elish describing the creation of the cosmos, as interpreted by Zecharia Sitchin.
The Beginning¶
"When on high the heaven had not been named, firm ground below had not been called by name, naught but primordial Apsu, their begetter, and Mummu-Tiamat, she who bore them all, their waters mingled together..."
The Celestial Battle¶
"Tiamat and Marduk, the wisest of the gods, advanced against each other. They drew near for battle. The lord spread out his net and enclosed her."
"He split her like a shellfish into two parts. Half of her he set up as a covering for heaven. He fixed the crossbar, he posted guards."
The Establishment of the Heavens¶
"He constructed stations for the great gods. He established the constellations as their likeness. He determined the year, divided it into seasons. For the twelve months he set three stars each."
"He made the crescent moon appear, entrusted the night to it. It was the jewel of the night, to determine the days."
Sitchin's Commentary¶
"The Enuma Elish describes, in poetic form, the formation of the solar system. Tiamat was a planet between Mars and Jupiter. Marduk was Nibiru, the invading planet from space. The 'winds' that Marduk used as weapons were gravitational and electromagnetic forces. The 'net' was the gravitational capture field."
